Loose-leaf lovers, if you’re not using an electric tea kettle to boil water for your daily cup (or 12), it’s time to steep into the future. Not only is the boil time usually shorter with electric kettles, but certain kettle models can provide a more precise temperature reading, and even keep your water hot for multiple cups!
We love using electric tea kettles because they save time, they free up the stovetop, and they won’t project an ear-splitting whistle to get your attention! Sound good to you, too? We researched numerous electric tea kettles of various sizes, materials, and functionalities to bring you our 10 favorites here.
1. Cuisinart CPK-17 PerfecTemp Cordless Electric Kettle
This electric tea kettle from Cuisinart is an all-in-one wonder. Just by pushing a few buttons, you can lift the lid of this kettle, set the exact water temperature, and keep the kettle hot for up to half an hour after it boils. Plus, it holds up to 1.7 liters, so it can serve a lot of tea at a time.
Although the spout on this one doesn’t make it as great for blooming pour-over coffee or loose-leaf tea, tea drinkers should be able to use this with their favorite bags and mesh strainers with no problem. The testers at Wirecutter also liked that this model boils water quickly and holds the accurate temperature when programmed to stay on after boiling.
2. COSORI Electric Gooseneck Kettle
This is the electric tea kettle that I use at home, and it’s the one that I most recommend for daily tea drinkers who value convenience and precision (along with good looks) above all else in their kettle. Its sleek gooseneck spout provides a more precise pour of water for both tea leaves and coffee grounds.
The kettle is powered by five preset temperature settings, so if you like drinking different types of tea, this model makes it easy to choose the best temperature for each kind. Just fill the .8-liter kettle with water, turn it on, and select one of the preset temperature buttons. The kettle will beep three times when its ready, and if you’ve hit the “hold temp” button, it’ll stay right at that temperature for up to an hour before shutting off automatically.
3. OXO BREW Adjustable Temperature Electric Pour-Over Kettle
If specificity is everything to you, this stainless steel electric tea kettle from OXO is the only one we’ve found that lets you program your tea kettle to the exact degree. Because if you’d rather steep your loose-leaf Assam at 210 degrees Fahrenheit instead of the recommended 212 degrees, who are we to stop you?
The kettle is also equipped with a timer that lets you keep tabs on your tea steep or pour-over coffee brew. Beyond that, the kettle’s sleek gooseneck spout is both aesthetically pleasing and a more precise shape for pouring.
This kettle is available in a 1-liter and 1.7-liter model, and both are equipped with a push-button, locking lid and immediate auto-off function. It also features a BPA-free plastic viewing window.
5. Bodum Melior Gooseneck Water Kettle
Even though it lacks temperature controls, we like that Bodum’s electric tea kettle is an attractive, yet affordable, gooseneck-spout option. It looks great on the countertop and is a cinch to operate, just by flipping a switch at its base.
It boils water for about two mugs of coffee or tea at a time, which is ideal since it also shuts off automatically after it reaches a boil. The cork handle and lid are both stylish and practical, as cork is a heat-resistant material that makes for safer handling.
